UConn’s CSA Guitar Ensemble
UConn’s CSA Guitar Ensemble, under the directions of Nick Cutroneo, allows guitarists the opportunity to experience ensemble playing together. Currently the ensemble is open to students who are between 9 and 15 years old. Non-CSA students are charged a semester fee for participation in the group while CSA students can join free to charge. Rehearsals are an hour in length and meet Wednesday evenings at 7pm. Each semester will have twelve (12) rehearsals. At the end of every semester the ensemble will perform on at least one (1) recital.
Member Requirements
- Have an acoustic guitar (either nylon string or steel string)
- Be able to read music on at least the first 3 strings on the guitar in first position
New members in the group are required to do a placement audition. This audition is only to determine what part and where to place you in the ensemble. It had no effect on your membership in the group.
Audition Requirements
- Prepare one piece to play - It doesn’t have to be long. This piece is to show your preparation ability as well as your abilities on your instrument. This doesn’t have to be a solo piece (IE: a duet for 2 guitars is fine, or a single note melody, etc…)
- Except piece – I will either hand out a photocopy or send an email with a PDF of a 16 bar melody to learn. This will be given to you a week before the audition.
